MSI GT660 Gaming

The popularity of gaming notebook is the most obvious sign of the future of laptops overtaking desktops. Increasingly popular with gamers from professionals who use it commonly in tournaments and LAN parties, the class of mobile game station has gone refining over the past years, reaching their own well-defined personality. We are not referring only to the elaborate design, which has its roots in the same imaginary referred to by the most popular 3D games, but also a wealth of technological innovations that have allowed these notebooks to reach unimaginable performance, while maintaining a discreet portability.

The MSI GT660 notebook, we are dealing with in this review and previously the subject of our preview at CeBIT, as well as other portable gaming machines of last generation, represents the culmination of this evolutionary path: 3.5 Kg weight, redundant hardware for any type of use, and up to 3 hours of battery life (measured in our lab tests, not an abstract assessment of the producer)!

Like the Formula 1 cars are the testing ground for new technologies and solutions that will land and then later to mass production, so gaming notebooks integrate a number of innovations that expand the boundaries of mobile computing, allowing reaching new ground in speed and efficiency.

The new frontier is that of "performance on demand". All the new notebooks are capable of shaping their services, and consequently their consumption, according to user requests, with the aim of eliminating any waste of resources. MSI GT660 this possibility of user control is extreme, and not only in the presence of an owner operator of energy-saving (MSI Eco Drive Engine) but also the latest version of overclocking MSI Turbo Drive Engine + (TDE +). A twin-turbocharged, because as we shall see in detail in subsequent sections, is added to the Intel Turbo Boost from Intel.

The first configuration available in Italy called MSI-009IT GT660R offering at a price of 1859 euro, a wealthy hardware components: processor, quad-core Intel Core i7-720QM, 6GB DDR3-1333 on three benches, 1TB storage space shared between two hard disks with rotation speed of 7200RPM, and a top range video card Nvidia GeForce GTX 285m with 1GB of dedicated GDDR3 memory.

As full-bodied, however, the technical details of the MSI GT660 do not do justice to the real quality of this laptop. Only direct experience allows us to understand the careful design work done by the designer in collaboration with the MSI engineers of Dynaudio: the shape of the frame of the GT660 was, in fact, designed around the speaker system to enable better propagation sound. The goal is to provide a multimedia experience without the shadow cone, according to the theme chosen by MSI for 2010, "Sound, Performance, Vision", which was also the main theme of the major exhibitions of MSI Fairs International CES Las Vegas since at Computex Taipei (this address will find a complete report by Taiwan's Fair).

MSI GT660, which soon will be joined by a twin model with ATI graphics, GX660, and a larger version of the diagonal, MSI GT760, is the flagship of the renewed family of G-series notebook, which since the beginning of the house has represented Taiwan in the mobile segment the flagship of its production. Many models and features included, the economic-GX633 MSI GX723-055IT and 020IT with Nvidia GeForce 130M GT (located respectively around 600 and 800 euro) for the GX740 and GT740-067IT, 004IT, with video card performance category ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 and GeForce GTS 250M (with prices ranging between 1200 and 1500 euro).

In 2010 was also introduced another innovation: the MSI gaming notebook boasts the most powerful red shield with a rampant dragon marking machines "Powerful Turbo Extreme Gaming", an exclusive club of players who are already part of the European team Fnatic.MSI and samples of the American team Evil Geniuses. Members of these two teams are touring the world with their notebook MSI GT660 in the tournament itinerant "MSI Beat It": until the last leg of the August 30, anyone can launch his challenge to try to win one of many prizes and participate in the final in Beijing in September!
